Introduction: A community perception exists about cure of serious diseases by consumption of camel milk as camel eats every plant so milk has many elements of cure. This perception is now visible in urban community such phenomenon was observed in Hyderbad so a study was conducted to observe reasons for such perception.
To collect data about camel milk seller in Hyderabad.
To enlist claim of cure of diseases made by camel milk sellers.
To ask reasons for such community belief system.
To do computer search about health benefits of camel milk.
Material and Methods: A cross sectional study in which interview of sellers and user were conducted and focus group discussion was held with medical students of Isra university and drivers who were coming from roads where camels were camped with sellers and data was recorded on note sheets or mobile phones photography was also done of posters on which cure claims and disease were written also local news papers were also read for additional information.
Results: Total 250 milk sellers and 600 users were registered by students and drivers who either purchased milk and used or sold the milk, following cure for diseases was narrated or written on pana flax which were hanging on back of camels, Diabetes, cancers, hepatitis, in fertility n anemia, energy enhancers. As the cold weathers ended and summer started sellers and user rush decreased and all roads became camel free. The hegemonic parameters of sellers, reported that 80% had open utensils of milk kept on dirt of road without cover and no hand washing and udder washing was done before milking camel which can lead typhoid, dysentery, Hepatitis A and E and other milk borne diseases
Conclusion: Camel milk is nutritious but claim for cure of incurable diseases like cancer diabetes and hepatitis and infertility is without scientific or research evidence how ever hygienic measures like udder washing covering of milk utensils and hand washing can prevent infectious diseases like typhoid, dysentery and hepatitis A and E, boiling of milk is also useful preventive measure.
