Enantioselective organocatalysis  is a powerful strategy in asymmetric synthesis with a continuous increasing of applications in the last 15 years. Our research group have been working in the last 10 years in enantioselective aldol and Michael reactions. In this lecture our recent research about bifunctional organocatalysts derived from trans-cyclohexane-1,2-diamine bearing different types of rigid guanidine units able to form-hydrogen bonding activation would be presented. 2-Aminobenzimidazoles 1 bearing a tertiary amino group and a benzimidazole unit , has been used in enantioselective Michael type reactions of activated methylene compounds to nitroalkenes . When a primary amino group is present, such as in compounds 2, the conjugate addition of carbonyl compounds to maleimides and nitroalkenes has been succefully performed . On the other hand, the C2 symmetric bis(benzimidazole) derivatives 3 are the appropriate organocatalysts for the conjugate addition of activated methylene compounds to maleimides . In the case of 2-aminopyrimidine prolinamide derivatives 4, they have been used for the inter- and intra-molecular aldol reaction under solvent-free conditions . The bifunctional character of these organocatalysts have been studied by means of DFT calculations .
