Born in Madrid, David Garcia-Dorado got his medical license in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, in 1977, and was Medical Resident in Cardiology in the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón (Madrid). He was Research Fellow in the Montreal Herat Institute, Québec, Canada in 1982, and got his doctorship degree, PhD, in 1985. Staff cardiologist and Associated Profesor of medicine at the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón until 1991, he moved then to the Department of Cardiology of the Hospital Universitari Vall d´Hebron in Barcelona, as Head of the Laboratory of Experimental Cardiology and Cardiovascular. Since 2002 he is director of the Research Program for Cardiovascular Diseases in that center and Associated Professor of Medicine Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, and since 2007 he is Director of the Heart Division, of of Hospital Universitari Vall d’Hebron.

He has developed an intense research activity in translational cardiovascular medicine, with focus in myocardial ischemia and reperfusion. His current research interests are the Pathophysiology of acute coronary syndrome, Cell death during myocardial ischemia and reperfusion, Reperfusion injury, Cardioprotection, Connexins and Gap Junctions during ischemia-reperfusion, Involvement of Mitochondria in ischemia-reperfusion-injury and cardioprotection, and Systems biology and NMR-based metabolomics.

He has been Principal investigator in 19 competitive projects from the Ministries of Science and Healh of Spain, and is Research Director of the Spanish Network for Cardiovascular Research (RECAVA). He has participated in 5 European Projects, including 2 as International Project Lider.

He is author of more than 150 papers in peer reviewed journals, 130 of them as first or corresponding author, in including Circulation, Circulation Research, J Am Cell Cardiol, Cardiovasc Res, Journal of Molecular and cellular Cardiology, Basic Research in Cardiololy, J Physiol, Am J Physiol, Am J Pathol, Pflügers Archiv, Cell Cancer, Journal of Molecular Medicine, etc., and of 17 chapters in books (5 in English)

David Garcia-Dorado is member of the Editorial board of Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, Basic Research in Cardiology, and Since-2002, is Co-Editor of the official basic research journal of the ESC Cardiovascular Research

He is Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, has been Chairman of the Working Group on Cell Biology of the Heart, European Society of Cardiology, and is now Member of the Council of the European Section of the International Society for Heart Research (European Section).
