MAURO LABANCA

Osteoporosis, a skeletal disease characterized by reduction of bone
mass and trabecular micro-architectural deterioration, is a major
public health concern. So, we will analyze the most common therapies
(biphosphonates, etc.) that are employed in this field and their side
effects, like osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ); this can be useful since
therapeutic strategies to improve or maintain bone health should further
implemented.
Patients affected by osteoporosis and undergoing the biphosphonates
therapy that should need oral surgery, implant treatment in particular,
could be considered as more risky patients compared with normal patients.
We will verify if there are some safety precautions to take before
treating these patients and if there are some procedures to avoid;
considering the important rule that implant treatment should have
nowaday for the quality of life of patients.
Finally, we will discuss if there are or will be present in the future
on the market some specific drugs which would be able to increase
the implant osteointegration and bone healing of patients affected
by osteoporosis.
