The Effects of Socio-Cultural and Economic Related Factors
on Adherance to Treatment among HIV Positive Women in Limpopo, South
Africa

This study is aimed at examining the effects of socio- cultural and
economic related factors to TB treatment among HIV positive women.
The study is to be carried out in Limpopo, South Africa. It will be
conducted in two rural villages (Tshino and Xivulani) and one urban
setting, Seshigo Township (Polokwane). A triangulated study which
will be both qualitative and longitudinal/ cohort is planned to be
used to collect data. For the purpose of the study, purposive sampling
method will be used to select 6 HIV positive women from each of the
three settings, which brings the participant to a total of 18. An
interview guide consisting of 8-10 open ended questions will be used
to collect information from the respondents. Data collection is to
take place over a period of nine months at three months intervals.
Data collected will be analysed separately in a qualitative manner.
Narrative format will be used to analyse data. Data will be analysed
through the Tesch method, where all units of meaning will be clustered
into themes and categories, which will be supported by direct quotations
from the respondents. The results found on the study will be used
to raise awareness on TB and adherence to treatment.
