Mefenamic acid (MA) crystals having different types of habits were prepared by antisolvent technique using different solvents.

Scanning electron microscope, X-ray powder diffractometry, FTIR spectrometry, differential scanning calorimetry, dissolution behavior, wettability, and the physical characterstics of the crystals of the various crystals were studied.

All crystals were determined as isomorphic by DSC, FTIR and X-ray analysis, and the improvement of the substance characteristics of MA was achieved by changes in the outer appearance of the crystals and surface modification.

Crystals prepared using acetone as a solvent showed the highest dissolution rate among other solvents being used in this study. The choice of optimal solvent would influence the crystal habit and dissolution of MA.
