Risk Of Increase Body Weight During Break Away From Smoking

Smoking is one of the most important preventable risk factors at mortality and morbidity and early invalidity from results cardiovascular, tumour and respiratory system illnesses. But breaking away from smoking could be cause of increase of body weight.

20 people (3 female a 17 male) with BMI up to 30,0 kg/m2 were submitted into 3 month monitoring with using Vareniclinum 0,5 mg or 1 mg. Evaluation of nutrition habit, anthropometrical (weight, whist, % of fat and TBW – using bioimpedance analyse) and biochemical (lipid profile, uric acid and liver enzymes) measurements were done at first visit and after 3 month.

18 people were successful – stopped smoking but only 3 of them did not increase their weight. Weight rising was not significant only about 1.3 ± 5.2 kg, BMI 0,8 ± 1,4 kg/m2 but simultaneously was noted increase of body fat about 1.6 ± 6.9 kg. Monitored biochemical parameters were changed no significant.

Stop smoking constitute risk factors for weight increase (possibility of future obesity).
