Oversight of Clinical Research – the Health Authority Abu Dhabi Perspective

In recent years, pharmaceutical companies have expanded their focus from North America and Europe to Asia including the Middle East. As such, their focus has not been limited to the sale of their drug products but clinical research and associated drug development. Contract research organizations have also not been far behind as they continue to increase their presence in the United Arab Emirates.

Health Authority Abu Dhabi is the authority responsible for regulating all aspects of human subject research in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Policies regarding clinical research that are in development plan to address all aspects of research and provide the necessary governance to conduct trials in an ethical manner, keeping in mind the importance of conducting research within the local population.
