Abstract:

Study of pharmacognosy has remained important in drug discovery and develoipment. Concept to Product journey involves various issues starting from bioprospecting to quality, safety, validation and clinical studies. Scientifically validated new chemical entities and technologically standardized botanical products may be derived using traditional medicine-inspired reverse pharmacology approach. Most of these medicines are poly herbal, multi targeted, slow acting and immuno modulating activities. While taking leads it is important to respect, protect and promote traditional knowledge. Whole systems clinical trials may be better suited for establishing evidence base to traditional medicines. This talk will give an overview of important research strategies and outcomes of few important national ongoing academia – industry partnerships from India.
