Abstract:

The aim of this study is the evaluation of anti-hyperglycemic effect of the aqueus extract Rubus fruticosus leaves in rats made diabetic by intraperitoneal injection of 150mg/kg of alloxan.

Our experimental study was undertaken on 30 male rats divided into six groups of five rats each: the control group, the diabetic untreated group, the diabetic group treated by glibenclamide (3mg/kg), two diabetic groups treated by the aqueous extract of leaves at two concentration(200 and 400 mg/kg), and the healthy group which administrate aqueous extract (400mg/kg).

For three weeks the animals models were treated by oral voice, twice daily, and changes in blood glucose levels and body weight have been noted.

The results obtained showed in untreated diabetic group: hyperglycemia, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia accompanied by a decrease in total protein, increase of urea levels and a disturbance of the enzymatic activity of TGO, TGP, and alkaline phosphatases, too the histology of pancreas showed atrophies of β cells.

In parallel, the administration of the aqueous extract caused a decrease (dose dependent) of glucose levels, a regulation of lipidic and proteinic profile as well as the activity of transaminases and alkaline phosphatases.

In order to characterize the principal chemical constituents present in these leaves, a preliminary phytochemical study was also effected. The classical reagents indicate the presence of: flavonoides saponosides, tannins, sterol and terpene.
