Abstract:

Sodium nitroprusside is the inorganic compound that accurs as redish-brown crystals. It has potent vasodilating effects in arterioles and venules in cardiovascular disease that administered intravenously in cases of acute hypertensive emergency. The compound was characterized by spectroscopic and magnetic methods and by single crystal X-Ray diffraction. Magnetic susceptibility and Mössbauer data confirm that Fe (II) complex is low- spin compound. The crystal structure analysis reveals 5 cyanid and one nitrosyl ligand coordinated to the iron in Na2[Fe(CN)5NO].2H2O. (Fig 1) In the present investigation, we report a suitable and modified method for synthesis of sodium nitroprusside (SNP) complex.
